Here are listed all our rules so all visitors and users can have the best experience on our wiki, keeping the wiki clean and safe for everyone. These rules apply to the entire wiki, including your own user profile, username and message wall. The rules will be modified with time, so make sure to follow the page to be notified about the changes made.
Make sure to also read through the other policy pages as well:
- Editing Guide: The manual of style for editing and formatting articles on this wiki.
- Staff Members: If you need any help or have any questions about these rules please feel free to contact a currently active staff member.
Red Level
If one of these rules are broken, the user will be blocked, possibly immediately and in some cases even permanently.
- Obey all the Fandom Terms of Use.
- No NSFW content of any kind, visual or written, as it violates TOS. This includes depicted nudity, sexual content, extremely graphic violence, hateful slurs, and other obscene or disturbing content.
- Spamming, trolling, or vandalizing of any kind will be reverted and will lead to your account being banned either temporarily or even permanently. If you see vandalism of any kind, contact any admin of the wiki as soon as possible if you can!
- No toxic behavior or bullying. Be nice and treat people always with respect; no use of hate speech, death threats and no inappropriate anger and hatred being directed at users, staff and wiki.
- Your username, profile image and profile description also need to follow the rules above. The profile shouldn't have NSFW content shown or linked in it. Hatred towards someone or a group shouldn't be added anywhere, or use any part of your profile to mock other people, users or wiki. Profanity shouldn't be added either, even if not directed at anyone. Users with profiles like this will be blocked until they have changed their name, image or description to a more suitable one.
- No advertising that's completely unrelated to the theme of the wiki or links that lead to suspicious websites.
- Impersonation of other users or real people will not be tolerated.
- It's also prohibited to use puppet accounts to evade bans. If you have been banned and return on a new account, all your posts will be deleted, your new account(s) will be banned and on your original account the ban will be extended.
- Don't try to use the rules against the wiki by trying to find holes in them to your advantage. Depending on the wrongdoing of the user, even if not mentioned in the rules, a measure will be applied anyway and a new rule will be added to this page to avoid this being repeated in the future.
Yellow Level
Infractions that could lead to more serious problems if repeated. These contributions will probably be changed or reverted, and the users could be warned. If these rules are broken several times, the users involved will be blocked temporarily. If these infractions continue, escalate to red-level infractions, or several past warnings and blocks were ignored and the user doesn't show signs of stopping, the user could be permanently blocked.
- Plagiarism of any kind is not allowed. This means that directly copying and pasting entire articles or sections of articles from other websites (including but not to, TV Tropes, Wikipedia, Japanese With Anime, etc.) is strictly not allowed. In the past we have had issues with pages being one for one copies of other wikis and in many cases this led to misinformation being spread. All information taken from other websites should be verified, rewritten in your own words, and ideally take information from multiple different sources and be mixed together to create something that is unique to the Dere Types Wiki.
- No unhelpful or damaging badge farming. Badge farming occurs when a user makes unnecessary edits for the only purpose of gaining badges and that don't help the wiki in any way. These edits can even lower the professionalism of our articles. While we encourage users to try gaining badges and edit a lot in our articles, this doesn't apply if someone makes constant edits that need to be reverted or are completely unneeded and repetitive, such as deleting and re-adding something over and over to gain free edits or changing words to another synonym without the intention of improving the wiki and actually fix the wording, but to make a lot of quick edits inside different articles and gain badges without effort.
- Respect the opinions of others on the articles, mostly in the character lists and galleries. If you see a character that you find strange to appear on the list of that archetype, don't attack the person who added it or ask aggressively what this character is doing there. The same applies if you think a character is missing, always ask politely for any questions, doubts or new recommendations you have.
- Don't write comments like "Why is this character here?" or "How is this character this archetype?", these comments will probably be deleted. If you have any questions or you really think a character shouldn't be on the list, ask about it politely or write a valid reason for their removal in a summary of your edit.
- Remember that we also accept platonic (affectionate, but not romantic) and familial examples for dere types in our lists and that characters can have more than one dere type or archetype at the same time! Removing characters just because another archetype fits them better is not a valid reason if they also show this other archetype, even if it’s in less intensity or less frequently.
- We highly discourage the sudden and massive removal of characters. If you think a change like this is necessary, provide a valid reason for every removed character or group and ask an admin first before acting if you’re planning on deleting several characters at once.
- No hateful comments towards a media listed and its creators. We try to avoid any kind of controversies related to the characters and projects that we add to this wiki since this is a wiki dedicated to creating a database of all known fictional characters that represent a Japanese archetype. If there's an issue that should really be known and revised by the staff of this wiki regarding some media, contact an admin first.
- Don't rush or force people to work or do something specific on the wiki, participate in activities, or answer a comment or post. Be patient with others and be compassionate to staff and users.
- This includes leaving comments on pages asking why a section is empty. If you know more about an archetype and type of media, feel free to add some content to the page yourself. We would really appreciate your contributions to the wiki!
- One person can have more than one account if the user has forgotten passwords or can only access one of these profiles on certain devices, but users can't use a second account to pretend to be someone else, gain votes, or reply/pretend conversations like they're different people talking with one another. These types of messages will be deleted and the second account might be blocked if the user continues to use it improperly.
- You can show your OCs in the discussions, your blog posts, or your profile, but don't use the works of others claiming them as yours. If you want to use a piece of art that you think represents your OC and that is not made by you, you need to mention the artist and a link to their work, if not, the post will be deleted.
- A good alternative to this is using Picrew, another avatar creator or a dress-up game. However, when posting these images in the wiki, don't remove or hide the signature and watermark that comes with them, and you should mention what you used to create them. Ideally, you should add a link to the avatar creator or game in question as well.
- Don’t post any kind of content created using an AI program in the wiki, since it’s been proven that most, if not all, of these programs steal works from real artists and use the voice and image of people without permission. This includes art in visual form like drawings, photos and animations, in writing form like stories and chats, and audio form like dialogue and music. These posts will be deleted and the issue will be notified to the user so they can know why this kind of content is not allowed in the wiki.
- You can share what archetypes you are in our wiki, no matter which ones. Even so, comments of this type that go into detail saying that the user is willing to harm others or themselves will be deleted.
- Don't attack people who are sharing their archetypes. If you see a questionable comment, report it or communicate it to an admin.
- If you want to make a big change in the wiki, contact the current bureaucrat first even if you are part of the staff of this wiki!
Green Level
Recommendations to keep the wiki clean. If these rules are broken, your contribution will be changed or removed, but the user will not get in any trouble unless the infraction is moderately repeated or escalates to other more serious infractions.
- Please edit articles and post comments in English.
- Off-topic posts or spam will be deleted from articles and discussions, but you can talk with others about topics not related to the wiki inside message walls. If you see that one conversation you are having is starting to go off-topic, continue the rest on a message wall instead.
- Don't necropost inside a discussion post where the last comment is 6 months old, unless there are any unresolved problems or the post was made purposely so people could add comments at any time. If you are bothered by comments, you can unfollow a post so you don't receive more notifications from there anymore. Comments posted underneath articles will automatically be locked to prevent replies when they reach this date.
- Try not to post the same question multiple times or in different articles to gain attention. If you still have more questions regarding some matter, contact and talk calmly with a staff member about the issue instead.
- Before adding or recommending a character to be added, make sure they aren't on any related list already! You can always use Ctrl+F on the keyboard to find certain words in any article. If you can't find your character or a media, the character may be listed in the Japanese or non-Japanese list instead. In the Japanese list, try to find the Japanese titles or names if you can't find the English name. In the non-Japanese lists, the title you are searching for might start with "The", and as such, the media will be found in another section for sources that start with "T". Your comment will likely be deleted if you make any unnecessary recommendations, but the user will not get in any trouble.
- Try not to add profanity or implied profanity in your comments or posts, even if it's not addressed to anyone, since many articles without a warning template are visited by people of all ages. The message will probably be edited by an admin to change those words.
- Make sure to add a warning at the top of your posts or comments if they contain spoilers from any media, and mention where these spoilers come from. Comments with unmarked spoilers will be edited to add a warning message or may even be deleted. If you include spoilers in your wiki edits then please add a warning in the "edit summary" as well, so other users can avoid clicking on the edit history if they wish to avoid it!
- If you see a troll or vandal in the wiki, try not to interact with them in any way if you can. Try not to reply to them, even if they send you a personal hateful comment, since this would only encourage them to continue. If you see a problematic user or someone sends you hate messages, tell an active admin about it and report all inappropriate comments and posts you see from them. You can also delete messages yourself if they were sent to your own message wall.
- Don't write comments saying that the wiki is inactive or dead. These random comments can bring an unnecessarily bad reputation to the wiki, so they will be deleted.
- Comments asking about wiki issues that are posted in articles will probably be removed with time once the discussion is over or once the issue is resolved to keep the pages clean.
