This article details our policy on adding new unofficial archetypes. If you are going to add a new unofficial archetype, then make sure to follow the guidelines listed below. The guidelines may be modified with time, so make sure to follow the page to be notified about any changes made.

Before creating an unofficial archetype: It is necessary to get permission from an active bureaucrat or admin first. You can ask on their message wall, the talk page of this category, or a post in the discussions. If permission is not asked before posting an unofficial type into the public space then the page will be deleted. A single user may only request and create 2 new archetypes per month. However, you are always free to create any number of unofficial archetypes in your personal blogs.

Unofficial Content Policy

Unofficial content is to be completely separate from official content and should not be intermixed. This means that you should not talk about unofficial types in the articles of official types, as these articles are to be strictly factual, and unofficial content should only exist in the unofficial namespace. We strive for full transparency to mark when information is official and which information should be treated as fan fiction.

  • If you want to talk about how an unofficial type differs from an official type, then it must be done only in the article for the official type and not the other way around.
  • Unofficial types should not be linked to from official pages.
    • The only exception is on character lists where they may be added to the "Not to be confused with" notice only if they are explicitly marked as unofficial. This means that the "Unofficial:" name prefix should not be hidden like it is when linking to official types.
  • Unofficial types are not permitted to be added to categories meant for official types.

Approval Policy

When coming up with ideas for your unofficial archetype, try to consider if your idea is unique and fills a void that doesn't already exist on the wiki. In most cases, if your unofficial type is unique it will almost always be given approval given you follow the proper guidelines.

However, if your type is generic enough to be summed up as "(insert object) ... but dere" then it will likely be rejected. This would include things such as "ryuudere" for "a dragon character........ but dere!" Characters like that can already go on the monster musume page for dragon girls or any number of other dere types, so it's not unique enough and is extremely vague with no unique personality or character development. Try to think of ways that you can make the dere side different. Consider traits that can be considered the opposite of dere, and then find a way to get to dere. Or consider other ways a character can be dere. The ideas are limitless so get creative!

Likewise dere type combinations that can be summed up as "this character appears on both lists" will also be rejected. Variations need to provide something new that neither type provides individually.

Unofficial archetypes may be rejected for one of the following reasons:

  • They are too similar to other pre-existing types
  • They are not unique enough.
  • They did not follow the proper guidelines listed below.
PS, please note that if in the future an official type is discovered with a similar meaning to the unofficial type you created your type may be converted into the page for the official type.

Steps

To go about creating a new unofficial archetype follow these steps:

  1. First create a base for the unofficial archetype in your personal user sandbox page. To do this simply create a new page, locate the "Preload Template" dropdown menu located near the "Save Changes" button, and select the option "Unofficial Rough Draft". This will generate blank rough draft with guidelines for you to fill in with your information. You can use the page Unofficial:Bosudere as a reference.
    • Tip: If you are more comfortable with editing, you can also select the option "Main Page" and fill it in directly. If not, then the unofficial rough draft is enough and an admin will create a proper page with your information for you.
  2. As you are filling out these sections make sure you follow the guidelines listed in the sections below.
  3. Once your unofficial archetype is finished, ask a staff member if it may be published. If the unofficial type follows all of the guidelines correctly and is accepted then a staff member will move your archetype into the "Unofficial" namespace where it can then be public. If it is not accepted, then the page will stay in your personal userspace or you may publish it as a blog.

Guidelines

If you are creating an unofficial dere type it is recommended to read through the article on Dere Types to see what makes a good unofficial type.

Naming Policy

This policy only applies to unofficial archetypes based on existing archetype genres. Any name can be chosen for other unofficial archetypes

New unofficial types must follow the pre-established naming convention of official types.

Common archetypes
Archetype Name 1 + Name 2 Details
Complex "Adjective" + "con" (コン) For characters who have a personality complex.
Dere "Adjective" + "dere" (デレ) For characters that also have a cute and lovey-dovey romantic side.
Gire "Adjective" + "gire" (ギレ) For characters who have an angry side.
Gaki "Adjective" + "gaki" (ガキ) For children characters who act like brats. It could also potentially be applied to older characters if they act like bratty children.
Ko "Adjective" + "kko" (っ子/っ娘) For young characters with that trait.
Sunao "Sunao" (素直) + "Adjective" For characters who have a straightforward and honest romantic side while retaining their other traits, rather than losing them as with dere types.
Tennin "Tennin" (天然) + "Adjective" For characters who are a natural and act a certain way without trying or even realizing that they are.

New unofficial dere/gire types must follow "two-syllable prefix" + "dere/gire" format. Instead of using the entire root word, abbreviate it in a way that is easy to remember. For example: "Dandere" is used instead of "Danmaridere". The key is to make both halves of the name balanced. If your unofficial dere type has more than four syllables total you will be asked to rename it.

  • Variation: Names for variations of existing dere types must follow the "root word" + "word that alters the meaning" naming convention of official variations. For example: Tsunpure is used instead of "Tsunpuredere" or "Putsundere". In this instances, the dere side is simply inferred because it's a variation of a dere type, even if it's not present in the name.
  • Combinations: Names for combinations of existing dere must follow the "root word 1" + "root word 2" naming convention of official combinations. For example: "Tsundere" + "Bakadere" = "Tsunbaka", instead of "Tsunbakadere".

Description

New unofficial archetypes added must have all sections filled with information and in the case of dere types the romantic side must be described in the personality as well.

Characters

  1. New unofficial archetypes must have at least 8 examples of characters from 8 different media that accurately represent the archetype.
  2. At least 4 of these characters must originate from anime/manga media.
  3. In the case of unofficial dere types, at least 4 of these characters must have a love interest and show the dere side in the series.

Gallery

New unofficial archetypes must have at least 3 images of characters from anime/manga media that accurately represent the archetype. Having at least 7 images is preferred so the archetype can have a full gallery, but it is not required.
