Ojoudere (JP) is a term for a female character who is well-mannered and acts like a proper young lady of high status. They are very prim and proper with a strict exterior and a sweet kind interior. They may actually be of high-class or they may just act like they are.

Meaning of the Name

Ojoudere (お嬢デレ) comes from the words "ojou" (お嬢), meaning "young lady", and "deredere" (デレデレ), meaning "to be lovestruck".

The word " ojou", or sometimes "oujo-sama", refers to a young lady of high-class. Because of their high-class status they are expected to behave with perfect manners and are therefore very prim, proper and ladylike.

Origin

The term originates from the 2012 erotic manga series Ojoudere! (JP) by Toki Yukiji. The manga followed the romance story of a wealthy young lady.[1][2]

Characteristics

Oujodere in official media are always actual oujo-sama, or young ladies of high class. Characters who aren't of high class, but act like they are might also count but this has never been shown in official media.

Personality

Ojoudere are female characters who are well-mannered and act like a proper young lady of high status. They are very prim and proper with a strict exterior and a sweet kind interior.

It pleases ojoudere characters to share what little or much they have with their love interest. They're happy to assist and ask others to assist their love interest. They lift up their love interest and those around them making more of their lowly positions than they are worthy of. It is this great generosity of substance and spirit that distinguishes them from himedere and binds their character to the heart of their love interest.

They are sometimes compared to angels by other characters due to their compassionate and tender actions.

Differences From Other Archetypes

Unlike himedere, they don't demand to be treated like a princess, they just behave like a proper well-mannered young lady. They are neither arrogant, nor spoiled, nor bossy like himedere characters, and instead they are kind. A himedere could be thought of as an "entitled ojoudere".

The difference between a dandere and an ojoudere is that dandere characters are quiet because of their shyness, while ojoudere are mature and calm. The dandere archetype is shy or asocial with others, contrary to ojoudere, who are quiet because of their mature personality.
