"Gurodere" (JP) is a term for a deredere character who enjoys being all lovey-dovey and romantic with their love interest but also has an ultra-masochistic personality that enjoys being punished by them in erotic and grotesque ways. Most of the time they act just like any regular deredere character. They're deeply in love with their love interest and have a very sweet, cute, affectionate, endearing, lovey-dovey, and heartwarming romantic love for them. However, at the same time they are ultra-masochistic and become sexually excited by being covered in their own blood. They will ask their love interest to punish them in extremely gory and grotesque ways, so they are bleeding most of the time when doing erotic acts with their love interest. Because of the nature of this archetype it only works if the character is immortal, such as being a vampire, in order to survive these extreme situations. It's a bizarre mix of a cute and heartwarming lovey-dovey, erotic, and grotesque love.
Etymology
Meaning of the Term
Guro♡Dere (グロでれ) comes from "guroguro" (グログロ), meaning "grotesque (repulsively ugly or distorted)", and "deredere" (デレデレ), a mimetic word for "being lovestruck (overly affectionate, lovey-dovey, not hiding one's romantic feelings)".[1]
The term combines the Japanese genre of "ero-guro" (エログロ), meaning "erotic and grotesque", with the sweet, heartwarming, endearing, and lovey-dovey romantic nature of dere types. It was described as "guro yet dere!?" making for a bizarre mix of a "lovey-dovey, erotic, and grotesque love".[1][2]
Origin
The term originates getting the 2012 erotic romance visual novel Guro♡Dere (JP) by CYCLET to describe the character Ilmi Blomberg. The game follows Ilmi and her lover Kazuto Koumura's lovey-dovey, erotic, and grotesque life together.[1][3]
Ilmi Blomberg is an immortal high-ranking vampire, known as the "Vampire of the Seven Deaths and Reincarnations". She first met Kazuto Koumura when he was younger and he became her first friend, with her friendship eventually growing into a deep love for Kazuto. The two are then separated for 10 years. One day on his way home he sees Ilmi standing in the middle of the road and attempts to save her from being hit by a truck by rushing to her side and pushing her out of the way. However, after doing so he blacked out and when he awoke Ilmi was by his side. As it turns out, Kazuto had apparently died and she had saved his life by turning him into a vampire. After reuniting, Ilmi asks Kazuto if she can stay at his house, which he immediately agrees. After they get home Ilmi becomes too excited to sleep so she sneaks into Kazuto's bed and they have sex. However, once again Kazuto blacked out and when he regained consciousness he awakened to the sight of Ilmi holding her severed head in her lap. Ilmi then stated with an infatuated and proud voice that she didn't know Kazuto had that level of punishment in him. When Kazuto asked how she was alive Ilmi revealed to him that she was a vampire.[3]
She tells him that she shared her blood with him in order to save him, however, in doing so she unknowningly caused him to develop a condition where he would transform into a monstrous vampire whenever he became too sexually aroused. Ilmi herself starts getting a nose-bleed whenever she becomes excited and then becomes even more excited by the fact that she's bleeding, so she has an ultra-masochistic personality that is always bleeding. From this point on the two have a bizarre yet heartwarming kind of love that is simultaneously sweet, endearing, affectionate, super romantic, and lovey-dovey, but also erotic and grotesque. This usually takes the form of the two of them having a very sweet and affectionate intimate time, before ending with Kazuto transforming and causing a grotesque ending, much to Ilmi's delight.[1][4][5]
Localization
The direct romanization of the term is "gurodere".
However, the official romanization in Japan is "grodere", using the spelling of the English word "grotesque" instead of the katakana spelling "guro".[1]

However, at the same time they have an ultra-masochistic personality that enjoys bleeding so they enjoy being punished by their love interest. For them, these grotesque scenes are a way to spice up their erotic time with their love interest.
This takes the form of their intimate moments starting off in a very sweet and passionate deredere love before ending with a bloody scene, which the gurodere character greatly enjoys. Even while holding their severed head, the gurodere character will look at their love interest in an infatuated and proud manner.
Differences From Other Archetypes
This type is most similar to M dere due to both types revolving around a deredere character with a masochistic personality. However, the biggest difference is that gurodere characters have an extreme masochistic personality and get excited by being covered in their own blood. In comparison, M dere characters simply like to be degraded and toyed with in a more affectionate manner where nobody gets seriously hurt.
Gurodere characters would be the perfect compatible love interest for a sashidere character who enjoys stabbing their love interest with a knife.

On pixiv, most works with particularly extreme depictions are tagged as R-18G. Because many people dislike or are not good with this genre, pixiv has a function to block works with this tag from being displayed. However, people often become interested in things that are "sensual and grotesque" at least once and many manga and anime contain erotic and grotesque depictions.”

Also the humour is great, I was basically constantly entertained, despite only having 3 characters it has some super enjoyable interactions. Dora-chan was my favourite because I super like the kind of girl she is, she’s basically Niwaka from Chronobox super super cute, but Irumi was the main girl and her relationship with MC was great, super romantic.”
- ↑ Guro Dere. Wordpress (2013/04/10). “Guro-dere’s premise is simple: take one deredere immortal vampire, and one recently-made vampire, and they have sex. Lots of sex which always ends up with guro. And she likes it. An immortal vampire, one of the 七死転生 (lit. 7 death reincarnation), Ilmi is a cheerful and bubbly individual who is madly in love with Kazuto. Kazuto being the very first friend she made in her long life, she treasures him dearly. Ilmi is pretty much the stereotypical blonde though, however, she is so dere it’s endearing.”
