"Buchigire" (JP) is a term for a character who suddenly becomes furiously angry.
Etymology
Meaning of the Term
Buchigire (ぶち切れ) is a combination of "buchi" (ぶち), an onomatopoeia for "the sound of a string snapping", and "kireru" (キレる), meaning "to get angry or lose one's temper". The "string snapping" is used to add emphasize to the "angry" and give the impression of suddenly snapping.[1][2]
It is often translated as "livid (furiously angry)".
Alternate Spelling
It is also sometimes spelled as "ぶちギレ" using katakana instead of kanji for the "gire" but this is less common.
Personality
Buchigire characters get angry with intense rage. It is state of being enraged and losing one's temper. They are not the kind of characters who hold their anger inside and let it build up like a majigire character would, rather they immediately explode with anger.
Differences From Other Archetypes
It has almost the same meaning as majigire (to get seriously angry) but is used with the nuance of 'suddenly' losing one's temper, as opposed to happening over time. Additionally, because majigire characters hold their anger inside they tend to become far angrier than buchigire characters who snap regularly, often to the point of losing all reason (i.e, they haven't just "snapped" they've "seriously" snapped).
In contrast to tsungire, this type has nothing to do with wanting to push people away for trying to get close or to hide their feelings and is a completely general gire type. Buchigire also adds more emphasis on the "angry" part since there's no prefix that alters its intent. The reason for the buchigire character getting angry can be any reason, whether it's general annoyance, being wronged by someone, or just simply having a short temper.
