I was born unlucky. That's just the way it is, and I've lived with it so long now that I'm just used to it. |
"Fukou Taishitsu" (JP), also known as "Fuun Taishitsu" (JP), is a term for a character who has a lot of bad luck and constantly experiences misfortune. They are not just unlucky, they are so unlucky that they have no signs of ever experience good fortune. In some cases, they may be so unlucky that people assume they must be cursed with bad luck.
Etymology
Meaning of the Term
Fukou taishitsu (不幸体質) comes from "fukou" (不幸), meaning "misfortune, disaster, bad luck, or unhappiness", and "taishitsu" (体質), meaning "(body) constitution". It refers to a person who is not only extremely unlucky, but also unlucky in that they have no signs of being blessed with good fortune.[3]
Alternate Name
It is sometimes also referred to as "fuun taishitsu" (不運体質), which comes from the word "fuun" (不運), which similarly means "unlucky, misfortune, or bad luck".[2]
Personality

Fuuko Izumo starting to cry because of her misfortune from Undead Unluck
Characters who have a fukou constitution have unusually bad luck, causing accidents and misfortune to themselves and sometimes even those around them. They are very unlucky and will usually have bad accidents.[1]
Differences From Other Archetypes
Having bad luck could result in fukou characters acting like a dojikko, though their clumsiness doesn't have to be "cute" and it could endanger their well-being if bad enough. It may also cause them to experience depression, similar to an utsudere character.

- ↑ What is Fukou Taishitsu. Pixiv Encyclopedia. “They are more prone to misfortune than those around them. It refers to a person who is not only extremely unlucky, but also unlucky in that they have no signs of being blessed with good fortune. As the legend says, "misfortune and fortune are like a twisted rope" (happiness and misfortune come alternately like a rope made of two twisted cords), good fortune and bad fortune are also a pair of yin and yang, two sides of the same coin. Neither bad luck nor good luck lasts forever. However, regardless of whether one has the will or not, there are an overwhelming number of cases in which one does not work favorably in one's survival as a living being, and one is constantly tormented by hardships, injuries, and illnesses that one does not have to go through, which is "lack of luck". However, there are many different types of "misfortune constitutions". Some are accepted by others as laughable, while others are persecuted as a plague on a level that is not funny.”
