History
Official Media
One of the most notable examples of a nakimushi character is Usagi Tsukino from the 1991 manga series Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon. Usagi was a clumsy girl who tended to cry a lot.[1]
Another notable example is Shirahoshi from the manga series ONE PIECE.[3]
Characteristics
It is usually used for girls and female characters, but sometimes is also used for boys when they are young.[2]
Personality
These types of characters tend to cry easily when they become flustered, sometimes with topics or actions that are usually not worth crying over, or often when they get embarrassed.
Those who take into account other peoples feelings and are around the nakimushi character, will exercise great care, because any word or action that they might perceive as not entirely friendly can cause them to burst into tears.
Their friends or family will normally protect nakimushi from things or people that can cause any kind of discomfort or that may cause them to cry. They will have to be even more careful of what they say or do, because if they do something that could harm the nakimushi in any way, it will affect them much more than done by any other character, to the point of thinking that they don't really love them.
Some nakimushi characters who are aware of their whiny personality will feel bad about being so sensitive and will want to improve to be less weak for the sake of those they love.
Differences From Other Archetypes
Shundere could be seen as a dere type version of nakimushi for characters who get sad when their love interest leaves. The biggest difference is that nakimushi characters will also start crying over things not related to love and that shundere characters don't have to actually cry, they may just get sad.
Nakimushi characters are somewhat similar to utsudere characters, but the main difference is utsudere have prolongued depression, while nakimushi tend to cry out over trivial things.
