"Shittodere" (JP) is a term for a character who is usually deredere with their love interest, but also gets extremely jealous over them when they're near potential romantic rivals. If they see their love interest getting close to another person they will start to suspect them of being all lovey-dovey with them even if they were just being polite in a platonic sense. They might accuse their love interest of cheating or the romantic rival of trying to steal their love interest even if nothing is actually happening. When they become jealous it makes them want to immediately start being all deredere with their love interest themselves in an attempt to win them back. However, when they are not acting jealous they will behave in a very normal lovey-dovey and affectionate manner.
Etymology
Meaning of the Term
Shittodere (嫉妬デレ) is a combination of "shitto" (嫉妬), meaning "jealousy (feeling discomfort over your lover interacting with others)", and "deredere" (デレデレ), a mimetic word for "being lovestruck (overly affectionate, lovey-dovey, not hiding one's romantic feelings)".
Origin

Shittodere by Summer Cherry Blossom
The term originates from the June 2016 erotic romance manga Shittodere (JP), which was later published as the 9th chapter of the compilation manga series Hanabira Otome (JP) by Summer Cherry Blossom as a prequel to Do M Dere.
It was used to describe the character Honoka Nanase. Honoka is a very affectionate girl and she accepted Katsuo's love confession to her and the two begin dating. However, Honoka has a tendency to become very jealous. When she sees Katsuo having small talk with another girl she immediately accuses him of flirting with another girl even though they're dating. A few hours later Honoka sees Katsuo talking with her younger sister Nanano. Even though he was just giving her a present because it was her birthday, Honoka mistakenly thinks that he's flirting with her and becomes extremely jealous. She starts thinking in her head about how she knows her sister is very cute and how she thinks Katsuo is being all deredere with her even in front of her. In her fit of jealousy Honoka immediately takes Katsuo into another room to question him. She asks him if he's doing this to show off in front of her on purpose, and with her sister no less. As she starts to become more and more jealous she steps up into having sex with him to teach him a lesson that he's hers and hers alone. However, even during the intimacy she accuses him of thinking about her sister while doing it which makes her go even harder than before to try to win him back. Although she has a tendency to get overly jealous, when she's not acting jealous she is extremely lovey-dovey and affectionate.[1][2]

However, despite their open feelings and lovey-dovey personality they also have a tendency to become extremely jealous. This may stem from an insecurity, such as thinking the person their love interest is talking with is cuter than they are, or it may just be them feeling overprotective and overthinking everything.
If they see their love interest talking to another potential "romantic rival" they may accuse their love interest of flirting with that person or cheating on them. They may even temporarily act coldly towards their love interest during moments they are accusing them, saying things like "Did you enjoy spending time with that girl earlier?" or "Do you like her more than me?" in an accusatory tone. They also have a tendency to pout if they don't get to spend time with their love interest.
This doesn't come from a place of malice or being untrustworthy, they just love their love interest so much and the feeling of helplessness or that they may lose their love interest to another person makes them want to immediately go show their love interest that they are the only one for them. This can cause them to become far more direct in confessing or showing their love, such as suddenly kissing their love interest or getting intimate with them to remind them who they love. These moments of jealousy usually only last for short periods of time before they return to being deredere after being assured of their love interest's feelings.
Differences From Other Archetypes
Shittodere is perhaps the most similar to yandere in that both types get very jealous over their love interest, but the main difference is shittodere characters do not get violent over their jealous feelings. While a yandere character might try to harm the person talking to their love interest, a shittodere character will simply get upset and try harder to make their love interest pay attention to them instead. A shittodere character will never get violent. Yandere characters are also more prone to getting jealous of anybody being near their love interest, not just potential romantic rivals.
It also has a lot in common with deretsun since they are normally all deredere and then can sometimes act coldly, but the main difference is the motivation behind acting this way is jealousy as opposed to getting flustered, embarrassed, or any other reason. Shittodere characters also have an air of insecurity about them that deretsun characters don't have. Additionally, shittodere characters don't necessarily have to act tsuntsun, they can just act accusatory or extremely worried.
It is normal for most people to become at least a little jealous over their lover, and in many cases it can even be kind of cute to see them get jealous. However, the word "shitto" refers to a more serious type of jealousy or envy while the more temporary or cute kind of jealousy is instead called "yakimochi" (やきもち). So characters who only have mild jealous moments don't actually fall under this type, only those who's jealousy has a major effect on their relationship.
