Etymology
Meaning of the Term
Sunao surreal (素直シュール) comes from the words "sunao" (素直), meaning "honest" or "straightforward (upfront about one's feelings)", and "shuuru" (シュール), meaning "surreal (strange; not seeming real; like a dream)". The word "sunao" (素直) itself comes from the word "su" (素), meaning "real feelings" and "nao" (直), meaning "direct or bluntly (being straight to the point)".[1][2]
