"Hikadere" is a term for a character who has deredere feelings for their love interest, but is very pessimistic and insecure about their love interest liking them back or their chances of getting into a relationship with them. Although they are madly in love with their love interest, their insecurities often prevent them from confessing their true feelings. They will often imagine improbable scenarios of their love interest dumping or rejecting them and leaving themselves more disappointed than before. However, eventually they will fall in love to the point that they are able to work up the courage to confess that they are in love and show a more openly affectionate side.
