"Pyondere" is a term for a character who shows their affection by acting deredere in a rabbit-like way towards their love interest. They will be very energetic and might jump around when they feel happy. They also tend to add "pyon" to their sentences to sound cuter.

Etymology

Meaning of the Term

Pyondere (ピョンデレ) comes from the Japanese onomatopiea "pyonpyon" (ピョンピョン), which is the sound a rabbit's ears make when they hop, and "deredere" (デレデレ), a mimetic word for "being lovestruck".

Characteristics

Pyondere are usually portrayed as having or wearing rabbit ears and a fluffy tail, sometimes even having buck teeth. Those that are more biologically related to rabbits tend to be designed as albino rabbits, with red eyes and white fur. Some may even be actual usagimimi.

They are known for their really good hearing.

Personality

Pyondere are characters that act like rabbits when their "deredere" side comes out. Pyondere characters are the equivalent of nyandere and wandere, but rabbit-like instead. While not having to literally be a rabbit to qualify, one does have to act like or have some rabbit-like traits to count as an pyondere.

Pyon Period

Pyondere are usually energetic, sweet, peppy, and cute. They tend to have a lot of energy that makes them jump around all day or when they feel really happy. Similar to genkikko, those traits may be their default personality or they may only act excited when they are showing their "deredere" side.

Pyondere also tend to add "pyon" in their sentences, the sound a rabbit makes in Japanese when they hop. They may also occasionally wiggle their noses adorably like rabbits.

Pyondere are also known for their obsession with carrots. They love to eat plain carrots or dishes with them and some even wear clothes and accessories with carrot designs. Others might collect things related to bunnies in general, such as keychains, plushies, drawings, or clothes with images of rabbits.

Deredere Period

Pyondere love pats and their hair is fluffy to the touch too. When being pet by their love interest, they may kick one of their legs in contentment. They are known for bringing good luck to those around them, which they tend to use for the advantage of their love interest.

Female pyondere are normally designed either adorably or seductively. Pyondere characters tend to be more teasedere if they are designed seductively and enjoy flirting with their love interest. Due to the prolific nature of real rabbits, many pyondere characters are also erodere, whether intentionally or unintentionally.
