"Taidere" is a term for a character who is normally very lazy, but is also affectionate and deredere to their love interest. At first they will constantly complain about not wanting to exert themselves, but once they fall in love they are characters who will make an effort to spend time with their love interest despite their own lazy personality.

Etymology

Meaning of the Term

Taidere (タイデレ) is a combination of "taida" (タイダ), meaning "lazy", and "deredere" (デレデレ), a mimetic word for "being lovestruck".

Personality

Taida Period

Taidere are characters who are extremely lazy. They will often have a very carefree personality and don't plan things out in advance. They enjoy spending their free time relaxing and doing nothing. They can often be found complaining if their love interest asks them to go do something "exhausting" with them, instead preferring to just spend time with them lazing around and doing nothing.

Deredere Period

Although taidere are normally lazy, when it comes to their love interest they will still make an effort to spend time with them and do things they want to do. They will depend on their love interest to motivate them to be less lazy.

Differences From Other Archetypes

The main difference between taidere and darudere is the existence of a dull, boring personality. While some taidere characters may also have a dull personality, it is not required. Some may simply have fun being lazy and enjoy spending all day watching TV or being excited while playing video games. Some may simply want to relax and be lazy after a hard day's work. Additionally, darudere are not inherently lazy; they are just boring people who do boring things.
