Must-read information

This page is made to create fanmade dere types that don't exist. The other purpose is to list new possible dere types (kuutsundere for example) that may or may not be necessary.

Please put them in alphabetical order! For example, for the Ds, 'danredere' above 'dottidere' because 'danredere' has an 'a' after 'd' and 'a' is the first letter of the alphabet.

Add them below.

Unofficial Dere Types

Akumadere

Not to be confused with Kamidere or Kamigire.

An Akumadere is a character with a demon/devil complex.

Meaning

Akumadere 悪魔デレ comes from the word 悪魔 (Akuma) which means "demon/devil" and デレデレ (deredere) which means "lovey-dovey".

Personality

Akumadere characters are exactly like Kamideres but instead of a god, they think that they are a demon lord. Some of them can be real supernatural beings, but others would only think they are.

This kind of character would think that they are better than anyone, similar to Kamideres but set to extreme, with arrogant, psychopath and maniac actions and thoughts.

They can act like Sadoderes and manipulate other characters "inferior" to them in a cruel, warped and sadistic manner. Some can also act like Yanderes in a devil way with their love interest and force someone to be their underworld Queen/King alongside them.

Some Akumaderes can act like this because they feel that they need to be cruel and seem strong in the position they are in, but they will eventually show their more "dere" side when their "akuma" exterior is broken by someone with a good heart that accepts them as how they really are.

Battleundere

Not to be confused with Undere.

A Battleundere is a dere type who dress like ancient/legendary (magical or mythogiacal people) who battle/fight people when there's a war happening. But at the same time, they are lovestruck because of the -dere/lovey-dovey side.

Meaning

Battle in English means "war", "combat", "campaign", "engagement", etc, the "un" borrowed from undere in Japanese mean "yes" or "maybe", and deredere means "lovey- dovey".

Personality

Battleunderes are kind people but they are pretty much heroic as well. They are considered ad "gods" or "heroes". why? Because they are legendary/ancient people. They don't fight violently what a dorodere, yandere, thugdere, and other violent dere types do. They used there magical powers/weapons and battle people right away. They are similar to a undere because they always agree to everything.

Meaning

Personality

This type of dere has a coward personality and often afraid of some things/some people. They get scared most of the time, so they may often hide behind the back of the people they trust (or love interest) and depend on them a lot. This cowardly personality may give the impression of "this-baby-needs-to-be-protected" kind of vibe.

But even if Bibiridere characters have this cowardly personality, if someone they care and love is in danger, they will do everything in their power to make sure they are safe, leaving their fears behind and showing great courage while doing so.

Some Donkandere may be smart, like a genius. Others may even be extremely talented or powerful. But they still can't understand the romantic feelings of anyone, until a clear confession is made. Genkidere

Not to be confused with a Deredere. Genkidere is a character who is hyperactive, lively, and enthusiastic.

Meaning

Genkidere comes from the word 元気 (genki) which means "energetic and lively" and デレデレ (deredere) which means "lovey-dovey".

Personality

They are the kind of characters that have an exceptional amount of energy and can seem like they're wired on caffeine or amphetamines. They're prone to spazzing out randomly, being overly bubbly and enthusiastic, and exhausting everyone around them.

Usually a schoolgirl, but not always— possessed of an over-abundance of energy, such that she runs everywhere (often with arms waving wildly or outstretched like airplane wings), speaks quickly (sometimes unintelligibly so), and always does everything fast, fast, fast! She's filled with confidence and determination, regardless of whether she's competent or not. Although usually played exclusively for comedy, sometimes the Genki Girl slows down for a serious or introspective moment. But not for long—she lives her life full-throttle. To sum it up, a good way of telling whether a female character is genki or not is to see if her family and peers are exhausted, astonished, or even creeped out by her chronic outbursts of vitality. (A female character is by far the more common version, but this trope is not limited to females.)

Giseidere

Not to be confused with masoderesadodereyanderedorodereutsudere, and a shundere. A Giseidere refers to a character with "Stockholm Syndrome", "BPD (Borderline Personality Disorder)", and/or EUPD (Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder). They often mistake abuse and mistreatment for love.

Meaning

This term is an abbreviation of "gisei-sha" (犠牲者) which means "victim", and "deredere" (デレデレ), which means "lovey-dovey". The term Giseidere was created by an artist named Yoru Namida.

Personality

Giseidere types are victims of abuse (generally done by their love interest, but not always). They are often paired with a yandere, a yangire, dorodere, or asadodere abusing them. Giseidere would develop Stockholm Syndrome, or BPD and would accept anything from their special one, often because of self loathing which leads them to think they deserve it. Their vision of love becomes twisted, and they end up believing the abuse is love (and sometimes, the only form of love possible). It eventually mixes up with the pain and suffering caused by being mentally and/or physically abused, and turn in some kind of masochism, or also lead them to be very unstable and psychotic. Giseidere can be very twisted and disturbed, and be similar to a yandere or a dorodere sometimes.

Giseidere are self-destructive, impulsive, they have little to no self-esteem and would be unable to get themselves out of the toxic or deadly dangerous relationship.

Geseideres have a deep depression and anxiety because of their tragic backstories, their mental illness or disorder, trauma, hatred, or their toxic or deadly relationship. They are somehow similar to shundere and a utsudere. And the depression and anxiety will effect their mental illness or disorder they have.

Himitsudere

Not to be confused with Kuudere, Dandere, Dorodere, Himedere or Tsundere.

A Himitsudere is a character who acts very secretive to everyone except to their love interest.

Meaning

Himitsudere 秘密のデレ comes from the word 秘密の (Himitsu no) which means "secret" and デレデレ (deredere) which means "lovey-dovey".

Personality

This type of character will always maintain an aura of mystery around them, hiding secrets with everyone except in front of the person they like, with whom they are extremely open and awkward, often over sharing.

They are closed off from everyone else, and although they would never kill someone, they will make quiet threats to those they think may sabotage their chances with their love.

Himitsudandere

Not to be confused with Himedere, Tsundere, Deredere, or Dandere.

A Himitsudandere is a character who is normally quiet and shy (like Dandere), but is secretly happy and lively (like Deredere).

Meaning

Himitsudandere comes from the word "秘密の" (himitsu no) which means "secret", "黙り" (danmari) which means "silence", and "デレデレ" (deredere) which means "lovey-dovey".

Personality

These characters will usually be antisocial and unable to speak because they are afraid of their secret emotions being embarrassing, but when they are with the right person (their friends or their love interest) they unexpectedly become much happier and much more social.

Hiwaidere

Essentially a Deredere with a lewd streak. A hiwaidere is cheerful and friendly, but also flirtatious and lustful, and doesn't hesitate to proposition anyone who might be interested. The name comes from hiwai, "lewdness", and deredere.

A "true" hiwaidere would essentially be a benevolent hedonist; they love life, and they want to spread that love by sharing pleasure with others. However, a character doesn't need to fit this model exactly to count as a hiwaidere!

Meaning

Inudere is the combination of the Japanese word "Inu" (犬), which means dog and "Deredere" (デレデレ), which means "lovey-dovey".

Personality

One doesn't necessary have to be a canine themselves or have features of one to be consider aed Innudere.

They just have to exemplify some of the (stereotypical) traits of one or have the typical traits of characters that are of a canine species. They can even dress up most of time like a dog.

Iyadere

Not To Be Confused With Yandere An Iyadere is the opposite of an undere, an Iyadere says "no" to everything while an Undere says "yes" to everything. Iyaderes are also very mean and tend to be asocial.

Jikodere

A jikodere is a person who is attracted to someone but acts like they are attracted to someone else. This becomes very confusing for both the jikodere’s friends as well as the love interests in question, and even the jikodere themselves. A jikodere does not do this on purpose; they are not being misleading intentionally. For the ‘intentional’ version of the jikodere, see the ‘Gokaidere‘ variant below.

Meaning of ‘Jikodere’

”Jiko” ( 事故 ) is the Japanese word for ‘accident’. “Dere” is derived from “deredere”, which means ”lovey-dovey”.

Variants of Jikodere

Note- Jikodere, as well as its variants, can apply to any gender or sex.

Gokaidere

A gokaidere is like a jikodere in that they seem like they have a crush on on person when really they are attracted to a different person. The crucial difference is that while a jikodere does this unintentionally, a gokaidere ‘pretends’ to be attracted to a certain person - basically, they are being a gokaidere on purpose. They are a variety of reasons they might do this, from fear of embarrassment or rejection to trying to prove to themselves “I don’t need anyone!” or something similar. LGBQTQ' may become gokaideres to try to hide their true sexuality and pretend to be attracted to the opposite gender. They can be very shy, regretful, and/or arrogant. They can also be very conflicted and even depressed. The only way out of this cycle of regret is to follow their hearts, and choose for themselves who they really love.

Meaning of ‘Gokaidere’

“Gokai” is derived from the Japanese word ‘gokaiwomenku’ ( 誤解を招く), which means ‘misleading’. For translation of ‘dere’ see above.

Kahogonadere

A Kahogonadere is a person who is overprotective of their crush, in both positive and negative ways. They could go full out Yandere-mode just so their crush is safe, or defend their crush even though their crush can already protect themselves.

The word stems from Kahogona, meaning overprotective, and deredere, meaning lovey-dovey.

  • Alfred Drevis from Mad Father
  • Wendy Testaburger from South Park
  • Revy from Black Lagoon
  • Ayano Aishi from Yandere Simulator

Kaendere

Not to be confused with Kahogonadere.

Meaning

Kaen hosha-ki ( かえん ほしゃーき/flamethrower) and deredere (lovey-dovey)

Personality

a Kajidere is someone who acts calm at school (only in most grades,) or in public, but is actually full of energy. most Kajideres rarely gossip, always gossiping, or don‘t gossip at all. Very overprotective of their crush, but it doesn’t activate until:

  • A roast session gets personal.
  • Their crush gets bullied. (They go full-Yandere mode if the bully is older than their crush, or themselves.)
  • Their crush is spanked by their parents, or their own. (Don’t worry, just wait.)
  • Their crush gets a punishment for misbehaving in class.
  • Their crush gets grounded.

They will overdefend as well. It doesn’t activate until:

  • Their crush is about to get grounded.
  • A roast session is about to get personal.
  • Their crush might get a punishment for misbehaving in class.
  • Their crush is about to get spanked.

Kireidere

Not to be confused with Megadere.

A Kireidere is a character who shows their love and admiration trying to bring the best of the person they like so that they can see the beauty they really have.

Meaning

Kireidere 綺麗デレ comes from the word 綺麗 (Kirei) which means "beautiful" and デレデレ (deredere) which means "lovey-dovey".

Personality

This type of character will feel some kind of admiration for the person they love, especially in one or various aspects of their personality, skills or even physical appearance, which are usually ignored by most people or even by the same person, maybe even to the point where they don't like that characteristic.

A Kireidere will see more to it and will try to make these aspects bloom and give the best of them so that their loved one and even other people realize the real beauty and worth of this person. They are usually supportive characters in the plot, who help the main character overcome their doubts and fears and help them achieve their goals.

Kireigire

Not to be confused with Kireidere.

A Kireigire is a character who gets obsessed with beauty to the point of insanity.

Meaning

Kireigire 綺麗デレ comes from the word 綺麗 (Kirei) which means "beautiful" and ギレ (Gire) which means "snapping".

Personality

There are several types of Kireigires that will act differently in front of others or with their own selfs, but what they all have in common is their obsession with beauty. Some of them will only seek fairness to themselves, while others will pursue it and even force it on others.

This kind of character will go to extreme resources to reach absolute perfection to themselves and even those and everything around them, or at least, to what their version of true beauty really is. This means that they are capable of physically attack and kill for it, this could be so that they can be the only and most beautiful ones, even trying to steal the "good look" of others for themselves, or either to modify the physical appearance of others for their own benefit.

A lot of Kireigires hide their true horrible aspect, showing a false one of perfect elegance in front of others, they will seek in every possible way a solution to remain always charming and young. If they don't see themselves as gorgeous, they will try to achieve it by all means possibles, but there can be cases where they will look so inferior and horrendous that they will hate themselves. Some will put themselves at the complete disposal of the beautiful ones, and would do anything to accept their approval or be minimally like them.

But there can be Kireigires who would think that they are already wonderful, meaning that they will want everyone to treat them like the perfect beings that they think are, disrespecting others with absolutely disgust, similar to Himederes and Kamideres but more extreme, with the idea of having the concept of beauty as their only purpose and devotion in life.

They will get rid of anyone who would come close to being just as beautiful/handsome as them, or they can do all the contrary and transform or dispose all the "ugly" beings to create a "beautiful and perfect world", these transformations being usually morphid and not consented by the victims.

These characters also tend to be very narcissistic, leading them to think that they should only have the best of the best, just like them. They will try to get married with the most wonderful boy or girl only for their perfect looks, without caring about anything else. They won't stop until they get what they so much deserve, this means that some can become Yandere just to be seen with that person, regardless of what they might thinks of the situation.

Their love is only addressed to their own beauty and even the concept of beauty itself, only accepting to be around those decently pretty, unless if they want to be seen as the only attractive ones. They will be obsessed over a person or a group of people just like a Yandere would do but with the only purpose of acquiring the beauty that they possess in some way or take advantage of it.

Mangadere/Sutōrīchūshindere

Meaning of Mangadere/Sutōrīchūshindere:

Manga is well manga,Sutōrī chūshin (ストーリー中心) means story cenetric, in Japanese, and dere form deredere, meaning lovey-dovey

But on some (rare) occasions, they may want to embrace these cliches and/or troupes's, and try to go after them themselves or make one these cliches come true. Like getting an harem or /a reversed harem, or even to try an avoid a bad ending (or endings). These characters can/may occasionally or frequency, break the forth wall. But in any case, if they a have sense of humor, it would usually be meta humor, or a part of their humors charm, can be (a bit of) meta humor.

Personality

This kind of character is not worried about lending money to others and their love interest to build up a good relationship with them, they will gives money to anybody at anytime, like if it weren't such a big deal, whether the other person ask for it or not, which can also make them Underes.

They also have a tendency to pay much more for minimal things, this tends to surprise and shock those who witness such actions. This personality could be inclined to be used comically as well, showing the character wasting one or more bills while using them as handkerchiefs or simple papers.

This personality would be compatible with Kanederes. While Kanederes look for someone with money or status for their own benefit, the Patoroderes / Shugāmamīderes do the opposite, giving money and positions to others without thinking of the consequences.

They will try to show to their crush that they are worth it to them once they realize their feeling, though sometimes they will begin to act like Himederes, and Tsunderes, but not aggressive and violent/hostile toward their crush. Their competitions will be friendlier and they will act less affected by their defeats, though they will also deny their sudden change in attitude if asked or pointed out.

Some will act like Gokaideres where they hide their true feelings and pretends they like someone else, they either accept their true love interest and confess to them or found someone else.

Tsundachidere

Downplayed, platonic variant of the Tsundere. The term is derived from tsuntsun, "turning away in anger", tomodachi, "friend" and deredere, "lovey-dovey". A tsundachidere pushes others away, putting on a cold facade to avoid becoming emotionally vulnerable.

A "true" tsundachidere would be someone who hides sorrow under a mask of aloofness and only expresses their emotions to their closest friends, but a character doesn't need to fit this model exactly to be called a tsundachidere!

Clare from Claymore is a good example of a tsundachidere, especially how she interacts with Raki.

While tsundere and tsundachidere look similar on the surface, there's actually a number of differences between them:

  • They're abrasive towards different people. While a tsundere is typically tsuntsun towards their love interest, a tsundachidere's tsuntsun side instead manifests towards people they don't know very well.
  • Tsundachideres are typically more deliberate than tsunderes. While a typical tsundere pushes their love interest away out of confusion over their feelings, a typical tsundachidere is trying to create emotional distance between themself and others. To them, tsuntsun is a deliberate facade.
  • While one might see a tsundachidere who bullies others in typical tsundere fashion, a "true" tsundachidere is more passive, acting cold and unfriendly instead of outright hostile. They're not likely to throw "baka!" around left and right rather than just giving someone the cold shoulder.
  • Usually, tsunderes and tsundachideres will have very different soft sides hidden beneath their mean streaks. A typical tsundere's meanness hides a sweet and loving side, while a typical tsundachidere is instead hiding some sort of vulnerability and/or pain.

Überhausdere

It's for this reason that they can also act really obsessive, wanting to stay at home only. They can also be really possesive over their possessions, bringing sometimes disasters, but a mayor part of this dere are usually quiet and will get nervous only if they are forced to leave the house.

Their friends will start to get worried about them and their health, but they will open up to their love interest and feel the need to go outside more to fix their problems/issues for staying home all the time. Many times they will only go out to attend an important or special event for his love interest, or just to be with them and not make them worry. They give off this "Their So Precious" Vibe.

Unofficial Gire Types

What is Gire ギレ?

The suffix gire ギレ is sometimes added to these personality words instead of dere デレ. Its meaning in words such as tsungire and yangire is that of "snapping" or "being mad" instead of dere's "being in love."

The word gire comes from the verb kireru キレる, which means "to snap" or "to be mad (at someone or something)." Basically to be full of it. To lose your patience. To be done with. To have had the last drop. To burst with anger. To get the last string holding your anger down cut. That's what kireru means.

The gire versions of personalities often have nothing to do with love or romance at all. People often attribute ~gire as more violent versions of ~dere, but these two words aren't actually related. A character deemed ~gire doesn't even need to be in a romance or anything. They just lean towards aggressive, abusive or violent behavior.

The part of the word kireru that becomes the suffix is kire, but it becomes gire instead because of a process called rendaku that changes the pronunciation of suffixes.

Some of them could have been Danderes who drastically changed to Dangires after experiencing bullying for too long or other tragic event that makes them finally snap.

They are more easily embarrassed and more violent than Boderes and Hajideres.

Characters with this personality

  • Kirihime Natsuno from Dog & Scissors

Himegire

Not to be confused with Himedere.

A Himegire refers to a character who wishes to be treated like a princess by everyone, similar to Himederes but forcing this idea into others, even if they aren’t actual royalty. Himegire characters have a princess complex and take advantage of their position, most of the time hurting others.

They usually get any kind of work to be done by other people, giving orders to everyone around them, and threatening and even sending to kill those who fail or oppose them. They will put themselves first in any situation, not caring about others at all. They always want perfection and success everywhere, from everyone and themselves.

This kind of character can be very dangerous, mostly because if you don't meet their expectations they can kill you, but if you become better than them in something they can also get rid of you, so it's best to try not to deal with these type of characters at all, something complicated considering that most of them control everything and everyone around them, including the main character.

  • Queen Egliette from Pocket Mirror
  • Princess Fleta from Pocket Mirror

Kamigire

Not to be confused with Kamidere.

Meaning

This word is a compound of "kami" (神かみ), which means "God", and "Gire" (切れ), meaning "to snap".

Personality

A Kamigire is a person with a god complex. Kamigire would be a subset of kamidere. They both have a superiority complex and they both believe they are the perfect beings. The difference with kamigires is there's no love involved. Besides their god complex, they may also be sadistic. They have a tendency to believe that they are right and everyone else is wrong, and they have no remorse for their actions. They will suddenly snap if things don't go to their plan or if they get caught. They are often considered the mastermind and will only take part in a romance if it fits their plan. Since they don't have their dere side, their admirer will simply be used as a tool.

Nemuigire

Not to be confused with Nemuidere.

A Nemuigire, similar to a Nemuidere, refers to a character who spends much of their time sleeping, the difference is that when they are awake, they become completely aggressive, especially with those who have woken them up or not let them sleep.

Personality

Nemuigire characters tend to be very lazy and laconic in nature, but despite their vague personality, if they get bothered by someone or something they can snap and become very dangerous.

They will usually get rid of those who do not let them feel comfortable in their precious relaxing time, even with the intention of killing in some cases, just before going back to sleep, showing a sudden big change of personalities from one moment to another.

It may also be possible that their more aggressive personality appears when they are sleeping, rather than the other way around, either because of sleepwalking or because of their connection to the dream world, showing a more relaxed or/and less powerful persona when they are awake.
