If I fall asleep and land on you, do you mind just holding still for a while? I hope that's not any trouble. |
"Nemuidere" is a term for a character who spends much of their time sleeping, but is very sweet towards their love interest when they are awake. They enjoy their sleeping time and will try to get as much sleep as they can. Often, their love interest is the one who will have to motivate them through their love to become less sleepy.
Etymology
Meaning of the Term
Nemuidere is a combination of "nemui" (眠い), meaning "sleepy", and "deredere" (デレデレ), a mimetic word for "being lovestruck".[1]
Origin
Nemuidere was created in the Western community to describe characters who are very sleepy.[2][3] Usage of this dere can be traced back to 2019.[4][5]
Personality
Nemui Period
Nemuidere are characters who spend much of their time sleeping, intentionally or unintentionally. They enjoy their sleeping time and will try to get as much sleep as they can.
Nemuidere are very relaxed and laconic in nature, as well as often intelligent and artistic when they're not being such a sleepy head. They can be found asleep in a lot of scenes, but it doesn't necessarily mean that they're lazy, they just love and enjoy their sleeping time.
Some nemuidere characters may fall asleep by accident or when there is nothing to do.
Deredere Period
When a nemuidere isn't sleeping they will be very sweet and loving towards their love interest and will give them their full attention.
When they are awake they get their things done and can even be diligent. Often, their love interest is the one who will have to motivate them through their love to become less sleepy.
