Hani is here to cheer everyone on! Born from a sunflower, she may be a bit clumsy, but she always pushes forward with a bright smile!
—Official character introduction of Hani Hima, from V-Dere

"Nipadere" is a term for a character who is filled with contagious joy, happiness, and positivity, and always cheers on the person they are deredere for with a bright smile on their face. They endeavor to always boost the moods of those around them no matter the cost like a shining ray of light and could be described as life's cheerleaders. Even if they make a mistake they will always push towards with a bright smile on their face. They are someone who is always open and honest with their feelings and has a very loving and friendly personality. While most of the time they are filled with cheer and overwhelming happiness, they also have a cuter lovey-dovey side that desires lots of affection from their love interest.

Etymology

Meaning of the Term

Nipadere is a combination of "nipattowarau", a mimetic word for "a hearty, happy laughter", and "deredere" (デレデレ), a mimetic word for "being lovestruck (overly affectionate, lovey-dovey, not hiding one's romantic feelings)".[1]

The term "nipattowarau" itself seems to come from the phrase "nipah" (にぱー), a mimetic word for a "spectacular smile" that was popularized by the character Rika Furude from the visual novel series Higurashi When They Cry. This can also be seen with the origin character Hani Hima also shouting "nipahhh!!!" as their main catchphrase.

Origin

The term originates from the American Vtuber agency V-Dere in 2025 as an original dere type for the character Hani Hima, who is nicknamed the Sunflower Cheerleader. Hani is a girl who was born from a Japanese sunflower with a mission to bring warmth and bright smiles onto everybody's faces. She desires to make everyone happy so she always cheers them on with a smile. She may be a bit clumsy, but she always pushes forward with a bright smile.[2][3]

Nipadere characters have a bright personality like the manifestation of a sunflower. They are always happy and endeavor to always boosts the moods of those around them no matter what. They are filled with contagious joy and enthusiasm like a shining ray of light. Their positive can-do attitude will gradually affect everyone around them.

Even if they have faults of their own, such as being a little clumsy sometimes, they will always push forward with a bright smile and give their love interest their full support.

Deredere Side

Because of their happy and supportive personality, they are not someone who is going to hide their crush and are very open with their feelings the entire time. While they are normally full of overwhelming happiness, they do have a cuter deredere when they're with their love interest. This is a side that is very lovey-dovey and affectionate. When they are intimate with their love interest they may even become surprisingly quiet.

Differences From Other Archetypes

This could be seen as a dere type variation of genkikko since energetic characters often cheer on others with a bright smile, though not all do.

It is also very similar to the base deredere type in that they don't hide their feelings, but with a far more energetic and happy demeanor. While deredere characters do support their love interest they don't necessarily do it in a manner akin to a cheerleader.
